Empires in Collision  China became a semi-colonial society after the Opium War  Japan, Ottoman Empire, Persia, Ethiopia, siam, and Latin America avoided to fall under European colonial empires. Atlantic slave trade vanished throughout the 19th century  Slaves were viewed and treated like merchandise.  British people move south away from Egypt  British people would hang and Flogged several people The change in power caused the west to be in control of chinas trade and its demand and supply.  

Chapter 18

Colonial Encounters in Asia, Africa, and Oceania  Page 790 (1882) There is a picture of a huge face of a white man with no body but several arms of an octopus reaching out to several islands. This picture represents how Britain was so greedy they had to be in control of several places to have power over several to make sure Britain is in control and other places can be aware of it and feel intimidated. In the picture it is perfectly clear that the octopus is grasping all the island except for one which is Egypt. This is because Britain had not colonize Egypt. This portrays the message that Britain had colonized a great number of countries and had the intention to keep colonizing.

Revolutions of Industrialization (1750-1914) In the 12th century Industrial revolution turned global in Asia, Africa, and Latin American countries.  Oil, natural gas, nuclear reactions added with coal became an easy energy.  China was the world leader of technology innovation from 700 - 1400 C.E.  Industrialization had spread by 1850 in Western Europe : France, Germany, Belgium, Bohemia, & Italy  People who already owned land demanded to be classified s first class.  Middle class - extremely health factory& mine owners, bankers, & merchants. Smaller businesses- doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers, journalists, scientist, & others.   Laboring Classes - manual workers, miners, ports, factories, construction sites, work shops and farms. Liverpools population went from 77,000 to 400,000.  US by 1914 lead industrial power. 36% of the worlds manufactured goods was the US, 16% was Germany, 14% was Great Britain,...

Atlantic Revolutions, Global Echoes 1750-1914 The French Revolution - (1789-1815) The french were enlightened after the Atlantic Revolution.  Put in order the Estates which included: the clergy, the nobility, and the commoners.  Haitian Revolution - (1791-1804) Haiti, 8,000 plantations, 40% of the worlds sugar and half of its coffee.  Revolt starting at 1791 rumors went around that the  french king was getting rid of slavery, slaves burned 1,000 plantations, and killed hundreds of whites and mixed race people.  Spanish American Revolutions - (1808-1825) Took place in Spanish and Portuguese. People of color revolted against elites. Not successful, this made them depend on other people, underdeveloped.  Feminist Begins - With the Enlightenment women's views on society and personal growth started to develop.
